FOR THE PROJECT

Objectives of the project:

The main objective of the project is the exemplary protection, promotion and valorization of two important cultural-architectural landmarks of the trans–border region. The further objective is the promotion of the cross border region as an attractive tourist destination through the exemplary “management” of the aforementioned selected monuments.The proposed activities include the restoration of the two monuments in accordance with the requirements of the ministries of Culture, as well as the common promotion- dissemination through a number of outputs (brochures, map, book, souvenirs, calendar, auto-collages) and the official opening of the restored monuments, combined with an exhibition in each of them of historical-archaeological thematics under the titles: How a bridge and a town were built in 1529: the case of Mustafa-pasha-Svilengrad” - "A route through time: Didymoteichon from the Neolithic period to the 20ieth century" and the publishing of catalogues.

Project activities:


Restoration of 2 monuments of 14th-16th centuries.
Official opening of the restored monument in Didymoteicho, with an exhibition “How a bridge and a town were built in 1529: the case of Mustafa-pasha-Svilengrad” and the publishing of a catalogue. Official opening of the restored monument in Svilengrad with an exhibition "A route through time: Didymoteichon from the Neolithic period to the 20ieth century" and the publishing of a catalogue.
Visual arts exhibition in the hamam of Svilengrad with the theme: "Memory and past-things that cannot be forgotten"
4 + 8articles in local and regional Mass Media in Didymoteichon & Evros prefecture / Svilengrad and Haskovo region respectively
From 8 broadcasting-television presentations in the two aforementioned regions. / 5.000 auto-collages
Information brochure , 3000 copies, from 1500 in Greek and English, 1500 in Bulgarian and English
2 Information boards in Svilengrad
Book "The ot+B285toman baths in Greece and Bulgaria", 1600 copies, from 800 in Greek and English, 800 in Bulgarian and English+B225
Enrichment of the existing web-pages with the material acquainted from the project in the 2 municipal web-pages
Organization of an office for Networking of Ottoman Baths in the Balkans in Didymoteichon./ Feasibility study for the formation of a Network of Ottoman Baths in the Balkans
Excursions of high schools at the monuments, 4 Bulgarian – 4 Greek, by 2 in Svilengrad and Didymoteicho
3 seminars for tourist agents-guides-professionals occupied in tourism, 2 in Svilengrad and 1 in Didymoteicho.
Trilingual Tourist map, 3000 copies in Greek,Bulgarian and English/
Souvenirs, 2000 pieces / Trilingual calendar, 2000 copies

Project results:


(1) Valorization of the monuments, that is protection, management that respects their values and promotion
(2) Considerable increase of the tourist flow .
(3) Successful fulfilment of a multi-level, trans-border exchange of knowledge and know-how
(4) Realization of an innovative initiative on culture, the innovation lying on the facts of the combination of cultural-tourist tasks on the same, up-today forgotten field and the role that is kept for those monuments.
(5) Re-emergence of the old derelict monuments as energetic “co-partners” of the local economic life, social organization and the cultural life of the trans-border region.
(6) Rehabilitation of the built environment on the banks of the Evros/Marica river and its aesthetic environmental upgrading.
(7) Invigoration of the local market, especially of the tourist branch.
(8) Promotion of the trans-border region as an attractive tourist destination.
